Blackwell Branch Cabin-Reviews

Best Vacation Experiences

Joyce Kilmer Forest

One of the best vacation experiences we’ve ever had, Linda and Jorge are excellent persons, on top of every detail and communicating about everything we would need, even before our trip.  The cabin was impeccable, clean and comfortable, with every necessity for a perfect stay.  The whole property was beautiful and perfect for relaxing.  Frankly, everything was better than we expected.  We will have no reservations about recommending it to our friends and family.  Thank you, Linda and Jorge.*

Fantastic Location Was Excellent

Blackwell Branch Cabin

Fantastic! The location was excellent, the cabin immaculate and the owners extremely helpful. Made the trip with my parents, daughter and son in law as well as 2 pups. Plenty of room for all of us. The pups had a great time in the yard while we enjoyed the fire pit. My father is on nocturnal dialysis so the downstairs bedroom and bathroom worked out perfectly and they were thrilled to be able to join us. I would definitely be considering this beautiful location again in the future.

What A Peaceful Perfect Hidden Treasure

Scott & Teresa

What a peaceful perfect hidden treasure! This cabin was so perfect, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The owners live just a close enough to keep up with and care for everything but I didn’t see them except when needed. Linda gave us a very thorough but quick tour of the home and surroundings and all directions and communication is written out and very plain as well as surrounding sites to see and things to do. They obviously care for and about the home, property, the natural surroundings, and have made every effort to be sure that it is a comfortable place for their guests to just relax.

Tusquittee Creek runs behind the cabin and makes just enough noise. We saw deer, beavers, lots of birds. You could stay at the cabin and never see anyone if you want, because they have all the amenities and thought of everything you might need from coffee maker, toaster, to baking dishes and utensils. But it is close enough (minutes) to the very quaint town of Hayesville to get groceries, go out for dinner, or antique shopping or just drive around and admire the mountain views. It was a great place to celebrate our 40th anniversary!

Serenity Lane – My Home Away From Home

Siler Bald

Serenity Lane – my home away from home… This was our second time staying at the Blackwell Branch Cabin. You turn onto the road and you immediately start to feel your troubles melt away. The property is so beautiful and if I were to purchase my own cabin one day, I would look for the combination of natural features this land has to offer. The creek is peaceful and you can hear it throughout the cabin. Creekside fire pit and firewood provided. The hammock was a nice addition and allowed you to get up close and personal with the creek. Even just walking through the neighborhood near the pasture, airstrip and on up the road is so beautiful.

We are hikers and the property is pretty convenient to hiking in the Nantahala National Forest. Additionally, Linda and Jorge are the nicest most attentive owners I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. They pay attention to every detail. We had our dog with us this time and they even left her a cute gift bag of treats and had water and food bowls all laid out ready for our arrival. They live right next door and can assist you with anything you could possibly need. I can’t wait to return again to this magical place I now call my home away from home. Thanks for a great time and opening your house to us.

I’d Give It 10 Stars If I Could!

BBC back deck

The pictures online don’t do this property justice! The grounds are beautiful and secluded. The creek is just a few steps away from the back deck. I loved being able to look out the large French doors to see the water flowing by while at the dinner table. Our family enjoyed a very relaxing week and Linda was a gracious host. Literally everything we could have needed was provided. (crockpot, hammock, laundry detergent, etc.) The houses was VERY clean as well. My 2 1/2 year old was in awe of the large playhouse and would have spent the whole week up there if she could. There was even a little welcome treat waiting for her when we arrived. Highly recommend booking this property and looking forward to returning.

One Of Our Best Vacations Ever

Lake Chatuge

Thank you card

This family came to our little corner of the mountains for a late-summer getaway prior to the start of their daughter’s senior year of high school. And while they were here, they learned that she had been selected for the varsity cheer-leading squad – a big event in the lives of this wonderful family. And definitely something to cheer about!
They wrote:
“Don’t even know how to thank you for one of our best vacations ever, we all had an amazing time, especially Piper 🙂  The cabin was pristine and all the extras were wonderful! We fished, we swam, we hiked, we kayaked and we RELAXED!! We are already looking forward to our next visit!”  (note– Piper is the family’s awesome chocolate Lab)

There were even treats for the dogs!

dogs in water

The porch is lovely. This house is very clean and neat. A fire pit was surrounded by several benches and plenty of dry wood was provided. There are many little touches which made this special: bowl of local produce, fresh flowers in a vase, folder with much information, granola that was locally made. There were even treats for the dogs!

Perfect In Every Way!

Campfire

Perfect in every way– a great vacation. Our entire stay went so smoothly from easy communication with Linda to finding it and loving the seclusion. I can’t say enough about the cleanliness of entire property. It’s nice to walk in to all being ready for you. There were things to do in Hayesville, but plenty at cabin to enjoy. We needed more time to collect rocks and enjoy the stream on the side, relax to river in front of the deck. There was plenty of towels and games and anything we could possibly need. I can’t say enough about what a perfect time we had at the cabin. You aren’t in a rental gated community but over a bridge on a little dead end road to feel far from city life and enjoy the country. Thank you Linda for fabulous memories to take home with us. Everything was simply wonderful.

Absolutely Amazing !

hydrangeas

I had a group of 4 kids and my husband and I, we had all the room we could ever need. The creek was the highlight as you can imagine. The kids played in it the entire time. It was a bit cold naturally but for the young’ns it didn’t bother them during the 90 degree weather. Our fur babies loved the outside deck complete with gates so that we could all relax!! Ms. Linda and Jorge literally thought of everything when stocking the cabin. I had left my blow dryer at home and after looking around they had one. The kitchen was so well thought out when it came to supplies, it even had frosted mugs in the freezer for a good cold beer. We had a few hiccups but it was quickly cleared up. All my family and friends are ready to rent this gorgeous property. Thank you for a relaxing and wonderful vacation!!

Gorgeous Smokies/Appalachian Getaway

girl with fish

We are a family of 4 with children 8 and 10 years old, and all 4 of us give this house 5 stars! We fished in the creek (and caught trout), walked to feed the donkey and the bull, cruised to nearby creeks (Fires Creek was a favorite), and both cooked and ate locally. We visited the local goat cheese maker, Donna, who was lovely. There is plenty to do in the area (Hayesville has nice local music, etc), and plenty of relaxing to do right there on Tusquittee Creek. It is a truly beautiful setting and terrific house. The house is better than advertised (pics don’t do it justice), cozier and everything just as you would want it. Super beds, shower, bathtub, and anything you could want in the kitchen (hand mixer, birthday candles, plastic dishes for outside, etc). Linda is absolutely accommodating. Can’t say enough good about this spot!! We arrived from Nashville via Cleveland but drove home via the Cherohala Parkway in order to visit Joyce Kilmer Forest on the way home and had gorgeous trips both ways.

True Serenity

wildflowers in grass

My husband and I booked this cabin to celebrate our anniversary.  It was just what we needed.  Linda and Jorge have thought of everything you could need during your stay.  There was fresh fruit, cookies, cider and fresh flowers upon our arrival.  The upstairs bed was very comfortable and restful. The claw foot tub was wonderful also. The house was immaculate, very well taken care of.  The stream is mesmerizing and very relaxing.  We arrived tired and stressed but left very relaxed.  We hope to return soon!

Enchanting!

Rhododendron

Enchanting! Our stay at Blackwell Branch Cabin could not have been better. Our family of five was deeply pleased with the privacy and beauty of the wooded location, and we spent hours just enjoying the sounds and sights of the creek. The house is fitted with every amenity a person could need, from an excellent master bed mattress and silky sheets to the Band-Aids and sewing kit we actually utilized. Owner Linda Gonzalez is a delightful person and superb hostess, a master of detail, who provided us with maps and information about Clay County and the town of Hayesville, as well as restaurants, hiking trails, and day trips to surrounding towns and sights. And fresh flowers and fruit on arrival! We hope to return soon.

True Serenity!

creek

If you are looking for Peace/Serenity…Look no further!  We can’t say enough about this wonderful vacation home! When you pull  up, you can see and hear the beautiful sounds of the creek rushing just a few feet away. Wow! The views of the mountains are breathtaking…Beautiful! Then you walk in to such a “clean” and relaxing home…it’s then that you realize…this is what a vacation is all about. Thank you Linda and Jorge for being so kind and going above and beyond. Thank you for sharing with us True Serenity. We will be back!

Magical! A Tiny Slice Of Heaven

dogs in water

We’ve booked many VRBO’s in the past, but none of them even come close to this magical home! Our hostess, Linda, was extremely accommodating from start to finish and her hospitality was above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before. She met us at the home and gave us a quick tour. There was a vase of fresh flowers, sparkling cider, some cookies, and even dog biscuits waiting for us. Each bathroom had a sweet bud vase filled with a fresh spray of tiny azaleas. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed, including a bag of treats for the local bull and donkey that inhabit the nearby cow pasture. The setting was something out of a dream. Set in a valley, at the base of a mountain, in an airy copse with numerous little trails that beg for exploration, there is a bubbling creek just off the back deck. Just beyond the creek is a serene pond filled with chatty geese, a resident heron, and swallows flying overhead. It’s the perfect spot for families with little ones to keep busy. I cannot say enough about the organization and cleanliness – the home was absolutely immaculate with plenty of linens. The deck furniture, benches surrounding the fire pit, and the charming playhouse were all beautifully, and lovingly maintained, with no evidence of spiders or bugs, which is incredible for outside furnishings. The playhouse was clearly designed with safety in mind. The gate at the top of the ladder only opens inward, assuring that little people can’t accidentally fall backwards through the gate. It has some toys inside, all of which are in good condition and kept very clean. Plus, there is electricity in the playhouse, so both levels have lights inside that make it a warm and welcoming space. There was a folder filled with local things to do. We took our dogs to the Chatuge Dam Trail for a nice walk. Then, we stopped by the Goldhagen Art Glass Studio & Gallery where we bought several pieces of art for our home. We met the artist and he and his assistant even gave us a demonstration of how they work and we got to see him blow several new pieces. It was a great and fun learning experience for our kids. Linda is a professional dog sitter who can watch your dogs while you are out and about, so there’s no need to rush home from outings. You can just relax and enjoy all the area has to offer.
I could go on and on… suffice to say that this is our new favorite home away from home and we hope to visit again very soon!

Loved Every Aspect Of The Cabin!

bridge winter

We had an absolute blast and loved every aspect of the cabin! The creek was definitely a major highlight as well as the details the owners put into the place. Everything you could possibly imagine is provided with care. The drive to the grocery store takes 15 minutes which proved to be quite easy to do. Also, the nearby Jack Rabbit trails are about 15 minutes away.  Mountains bikers would LOVE this area. We love it too, and decided to go back for a 2nd hike/walk. The AT trail can be found 30-45 minutes away, although we didn’t venture that far, so there might be an access point closer. Once we got to the cabin and had so much fun hanging out on the property we didn’t want to leave. In fact, after 5 nights, we didn’t want to leave at all.

Special Touches Throughout

Special touches throughout the home. Very comfortable, clean and private. It was cold outside but inviting inside. Nice touches throughout home and private. The water outside was beautiful as well as the grounds around the home. Coffeemaker and a blender! Clothes tree to hang coats was very nice.

Nature Created The Setting

pond fall colors

Nature created the setting, but you all have added the frosting to the cake with all your thoughtful touches– the fresh fruit, flowers, etc. The cabin was so complete for our every need and the fall decor outside put a smile on our faces each time we returned.  You truly created a 5-star experience for us.  Thank you Linda and Jorge!

We Loved The Creek!

heart with flowers

We loved our week and the cabin.  We were sad to have to leave, we do want to come back and try Gili’s Cove Cabin too.  Thank you so much for an amazing week.  The cabin was immaculately clean and so enjoyable.  As we ate breakfast, one morning we watched 5 deer come down to the creek.  Thank you for the lovely flowers, kiss’s and the heart dish.  You made it so special for us.  It was truly so much more than we ever imagined for our honeymoon.  God bless you.  We will be returning, hopefully in the spring or fall.  We will be in touch. Thank you again.

Cozy Cabin Has All The Necessities

Serenity!  This cozy cabin has all the necessities for a relaxing get away. The full sized kitchen allowed us to prepare all of our meals right there, and there is also a gas grill if you want to cook out. The pond on the other side of the creek is the best fishing hole ever according to my dad! Fire pit great for roasting marshmallows, best s’mores ever also!!! Looking forward to our return.

Comfortable and peaceful!  My kids, mother, sister and I stayed in the cabin over the weekend and I can’t say enough positive things about it. It was very clean, with comfortable furnishings, beds and plenty of space. The cabin is right on the creek so the kids were occupied all weekend between the water and the playhouse! Very beautiful place. Linda was very nice and helpful, and greeted us upon our arrival to show us around. We will definitely be back!

Very Nice Cabin And Nearby Stream

We stayed for the eclipse and we’re very happy that we did. Very nice cabin and nearby stream. All the comforts of home while being able to get away from it all. We had 5 adults, 2 kids, and 2 dogs and while that pushed things a bit, we we’re all still very comfortable (we brought up a pack-and-play for one of the kids).

Wonderful Cabin In The Mountains

My family and I had a wonderful stay in the mountains. It was everything we had asked for. The owner was very friendly and nice. The temperature was very good, but it did rain all day on Friday, but that did not dampen our stay. We had plenty things to do. We really enjoyed the shows at Hiawassee Fair Grounds. We also got in a little fishing. We will definitely be back!

One Of The Best Long Weekends We’ve Ever Had

dogs in water

We had one of the best long weekends we’ve ever had! So much so, we were talking on our home about our next stay with you. We fell in love with Blackwell Branch Cabin the minute we saw it. I swear I heard a little voice in my ear saying “Welcome Home” it was just that peaceful and tranquil. We just took care of it as though it was our own. Delila and Dory had such a splendid time playing and swimming in the creek and chasing stick.s It always makes me a bit giddy to watch them having such a good time. Thank you for helping us create some beautiful memories and we look forward to spending more time at Blackwell Branch in the future.  Also, thank you for being such a lovely hosts! Linda and Jorge made our trip go very smooth and easy-peasy and that meant so much to us!

Truly A Little Piece Of Heaven

Boy on tube in creek

This is our second trip to the creek and we are already planning our next. We absolutely love it in Hayesville. We’re a family of 6 and there was plenty of room inside and out. Our children tubed the creek for hours every day and caught many fish in the pond. We hiked a few falls too. Linda does an amazing job preparing the house with basic essentials and lots of extras (cookies, fresh fruits, fresh flowers), It’s truly a little piece of heaven.

Perfect For Kids…And Their Parents!

Campfire

We stayed with 3 kids, ages 3 to almost 8. They absolutely loved the creek and the playhouse, and I enjoyed swinging in the hammock while the kids played in the creek! We also enjoyed walking over to feed the bull and the donkey, and we appreciated the little treats that Linda had waiting for all of us. The house is incredibly well stocked – firewood (no skewers, FYI), bug repellent, soap, a propane grill, laundry detergent, coffee and filters, etc. We took one visit to Fire Creek Falls but otherwise we didn’t leave the property for 3 days and never felt the need. We have stayed at many VRBO rentals, but this one is my new favorite!

A Gorgeous Place Nestled Into The Mountains

Lake w-clouds in Springtime

a gorgeous place nestled into the mountains. A beautiful scenic little town just 15 minutes away, but plenty to do at home if you stay in. Fishing, games, relaxing, hammock swinging or just enjoying the creek. Can’t recommend this place enough. Our hosts were amazing. Always available and willing to go above and beyond.

Julie & Derrick L.

Loved This Cabin!!!

We (hubby, two kids, two dogs, and myself) stayed at this awesome cabin for four nights. Linda and Jorge were excellent hosts and left the best welcome goodies for the whole family, including the dogs. The cabin is immaculate, comfy, and is fully stocked with everything one would need for cooking, laundry, etc. The best part is the amazing sight and sound of the creek in the back. The kids loved it and they especially loved feeding Bully and Roscoe the corn and carrots that Linda so graciously supplied. From the creek, to canoeing in the pond, to the amazing serenity that envelopes this property, this cabin is definitely at the top of our list! Would definitely return!!

Quietness And Serenity

Surrounded by God’s creation (and much hard work by the property owners).  Quietness and serenity. Beautiful, large creek – many places to walk and enjoy outdoors. Large decks for outside enjoyment. The cabin was stocked with everything you could possibly need for your home away. Pristine and organized. The owners have placed much thought in making this offering enjoyable and unforgettable.

We Do Not Want To Leave The Cabin!

hikers on road

Absolutely Wonderful! Linda and Jorge could not have been any better hosts! The cabin was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything needed to unplug and enjoy the beautiful stream and mountains. It was apparent throughout the stay that the hosts go the extra mile to think of everything. Our crew included my wife and I who are empty-nesters, along with my wife’s mother and our son who is in college. We when initially arrived, the hosts explained that they had discovered a small leak in the bathroom and had a plumber coming out the next day. They offered the other cabin, but we declined. The next day the plumber came and fixed the issue. The following day we received a nice card and gift certificate for our trouble. We did not expect it or want it, but it illustrates their commitment to making the stay as wonderful as possible. My wife and I do not want to leave the cabin! We are already planning our next visit.

Serenity On The Creek

Tusquittee Creek

Serenity Lane is definitely the perfect name for the road leading to the cabin. The setting is absolutely beautiful on the creek. We have stayed in numerous cabins in western North Carolina and north Georgia and Blackwell Branch Cabin is definitely one of our favorites that we would return to. The owners are very responsive and have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. All you need to bring are some clothes and groceries! The mountains and pastureland in the surrounding Tusquittee community are gorgeous and the cabin is secluded but very easy to get to. It is very convenient to have the Ingles grocery store about 15 minutes away and the charming downtown’s of Hayesville and Murphy are not far away. We hope to move to the mountains in a few years and this is an area that we will definitely consider after staying here

Terry & Sherry J.

The Cabin Was Even Better Than I Had Imagined !

mountains

We enjoyed our four night stay very much! The cabin was very clean, tidy, had everything we could possibly need for cooking our meals. We relaxed on the porch/decks, the boys fished in the pond and even tried their hand at trout fishing in the creek!  We went to Fires Creek hiking–beautiful area. We will definitely be back…hopefully sooner rather than later! Linda & Jorge — y’all are the best!!! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us — we really enjoyed meeting you!

Perfect Getaway – Even In The Early Spring

blue flowers

Our three night stay at Blackwell Branch Cottage could not have been more ideal. Linda greeted us with not only a brief tour but a birthday balloon and treats for my husband whose 65 birthday we were celebrating. The cottage is sparkling and includes all amenities such as crisp linens, wifi, fresh flowers, and a great library. The creek is pristine and the bull and donkey in the nearby pasture are precious and friendly. Trillium and other native plants were blooming throughout the woodlands and the tended gardens around the cottage were just budding.

We will definitely return to the treasure. Our Springer spaniel, Scout, loved fetching sticks from the pond and barking at the livestock. We felt that she was a welcome guest as we were.

Amazing Property!

hiking boots

We needed a weekend getaway that was close to a trail that we were hiking on Sunday. This was the perfect place tucked back in the woods. My mood can only be described as giddy as I took in all the views from around the property. A great fire pit with endless wood is supplied. We took advantage of this both nights. Smores, brats on the fire, delicious…….all while viewing an endless clear sky of stars in the evening and listening to the relaxing creek a few yards away. The cabin is very open and allows for great views too. If you need more space, the house next door is also available to rent.

Linda is by far the most accommodating host I have ever seen. She met us when we got there, maps in hand and full of information about the area. She gave us this really nice gift basket with teas, cookies and a nice coffee mug, which I claimed (the others wanted it!). There is a small tavern 1/4 mile away, and we didn’t get a chance to go, but it looked like a really cute place with open deck and live music. We had to get up relatively early on Sunday morning and almost thought about canceling our hike just so we could stay at the cabin a couple more hours. It was definitely the highlight of the weekend. I will be back. In my mind I have claimed it as my own!

A Mountain Home Away From Home

pond winter blue sky

WOW!  My husband and I love the mountains, so we’ve stayed in our fair share of cabins…this is by far the BEST yet! So cozy and a beautiful property with all the amenities one can need for a weekend, a week or a month! Not to mention—completely spotless! The house was stocked with fresh linens, soaps, tons of dishes, FRESH flowers and lots of other little things that show exactly how much effort the owners put into this place. The creek outside is beautiful and the best part is that you can see it from almost every inch of the house. We loved the fire pit, gazing up at the millions of stars. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Linda & Jorge were so friendly & communicative and made for a smooth check-in and check-out.  Thank you for a great weekend – we hope to come back again someday soon!!

Love The Creek!

pond winter

Owner was very responsive and helpful during the booking process. When we arrived there was everything and more that we needed! She had treats for the kids and our two dogs along with a mug full of popcorn, hot cocoa and tea. The sound of the rushing creek behind the house was wonderful! The kids loved the playhouse. The only thing disappointing was there were no fish in the creek or the pond. My husband and I were hoping to do some fishing but it just didn’t work out. There also wasn’t a lot of hot water for baths or showers but I loved the claw foot tub, just wished I could have filled it with hot water. My husband has already recommended your place to a coworker. We are even thinking about returning when the weather is a bit warmer. Overall a good experience.

Owner’s Comments:
While at first we were a little disappointed that this guest gave us our first 4-star review, we decided to look a little further at what she wrote and see if we could learn something. And boy did we ever! Upon closer inspection of the plumbing and hot water heater in the cabin, we learned that the water heater was 20+ years old and indeed could not live up to the demands of filling the big soaking tub while a family’s regular activities (using washer, running dishwasher) were also taking place during a normal day’s activities. So… we expect to be installing a brand new, up-sized hot water heater in the cabin next week along with some other plumbing adjustments which should resolve the issue. Re. the pond and the creek – and the non-cooperating fish: Tusquittee Creek is a trout stream stocked by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission several times a year. We’ve seen guests and neighbors catch plenty of trout in the creek, but a fisherman-neighbor of ours surmised, with a twinkle in his eyes, that perhaps mid-January is not the best time of year to fish the creek– the fish are too busy trying to keep warm and so are the fishermen (mountain humor!). The pond, while not stocked, is home to bass and bluegill and we’ve had many guests spend delightful hours fishing there (catch and release), being rewarded with a nice size bass or bluegill. We’d love for this family to come back and try their luck again! One final note regarding this delightful young family– We’ve had our rental cabin and cottage for 2+ years now and while almost all of our guests leave the cabin cleaned up a bit, we can honestly say that when we checked the cabin after this family’s departure, you would never have known that a young family with four children under the age of 12 plus two dogs (gotta love those little dachshunds!) had ever spent a single minute there. It was immaculate! Everything was not only tidied up and all check-out instructions had been followed, the level of cleanliness and order in the cabin was astounding. So we want to again say thank you to this amazing family for choosing to stay with us and we’d be delighted to welcome them back any time.

Treasure In The Woods

bridge winter

Our recent trip to Hayesville, North Carolina was not a pleasure trip. We were going for a sudden death in the family and had to scramble to find a place to stay-ASAP! We found Blackwell Branch Cabin online and it was available for our travel dates. Booking was simple and quick and we were on our way the next day!  The owner was there and warmly welcomed us on arrival! She gave us all the info we needed. She also left a folder with local information as well as check out information. What really caught my eye was that the pictures online didn’t do this cabin justice! The photos online were very nice, but the cabin is bigger than it looked!! It was very comfortable and yet cozy for our family of five. We had plenty of space for family to come by also! We enjoyed tic-tac-toe and checkers in our ‘down time’. It was Extremely cold during our visit, so we didn’t venture out much, but the creek in back looked and sounded wonderful!  Our family will definitely book this cabin for future trips!! It was beautiful! And meeting both owners was equally as nice! Very friendly and sincere!
We HIGHLY recommend Blackwell Branch Cabin!! 🙂

Great Hospitality

Linda and Jorge were fabulous hosts, and went out of their way to make a celebratory weekend very special. We had a Saturday morning bonus as one of the local planes took to the air and did stunts right above the airfield! Very peaceful setting, super clean house, and great service by the owners.

Fabulously Perfect

Boy on tube in creek

Our family of 6 had a wonderful time. Our elementary aged boys played in the creek for hours, we fished in the pond, we played nerf gun wars, we roasted marshmallows, and hiked a few trails.  The cabin has all of the finishing touches of a bed and breakfast. It was amazingly clean, nicely updated while keeping the authenticity of a cottage. We were as comfortable at the cottage as we were at home.  Linda and Jorge are extremely hospitable and friendly. Linda knows the area and gives great recommendations.  Hoping to go back again soon!

Our Yearly, Must-Have, Wouldn’t-Miss Vacation Destination

road w-fall colors

Not only is Blackwell Branch Cabin our yearly fall vacation retreat, this cabin, this vacation, is sometimes a daily or weekly mental respite! My husband and I both literally think about this vacation spot when we’re having a tough day or a tough week. Knowing we have a reserved week every year is our way of telling ourselves, “It’ll all be okay soon. We’ll be in the mountains soon.”  The cabin and property are immaculately kept by Linda and Jorge, with plenty of porches for lounging and watching the creek, and plenty of green space for tossing a football or sitting by the fire. The cabins are spotless and well appointed with beautiful artistic touches throughout. With WiFi and streaming movies, you can have all the gadgets going that you want. But why would you want?   Linda is great with all communication, keeping me aware of any the weather or road conditions—going the extra mile is a signature Linda move.   And we love that the cabin is pet-friendly, but never looks like a pet has been there. It’s so clean and comfortable!  Thank you, Linda and Jorge, for creating a sanctuary for rest and re-connection with ourselves, each other, and God’s creation. There’s nowhere else for us in Hayesville!

The Gold Standard For Customer Service

Flowers on table

In full disclosure, I am a beach lover, not a mountain lover; the fact that a beach lover is already considering a return trip speaks volumes about this retreat. From the welcoming wrap around porch with multiple areas for gathering (rocking chairs on front porch, picnic table with gas grill on side porch, an artisan chair with stool and 2 tables on back porch) to the babbling creek that can be heard from anywhere outside, it feels like it’s welcoming you in. We loved having an old fashioned screen door and screens over each of the French doors ( 2 sets on each of 2 walls in the living area), that allowed the cool air to carry in the beautiful sound of the creek behind the cabin. Upstairs is a loft bedroom and a small bedroom with an adorable (comfortable) trundle bed; downstairs is the 3rd bedroom beside the 2nd bath (with the great clawfoot tub for soaking and option of turning on the dim light over the tub, only, we added a scented candle and some music…VOILA! instant spa). The crown jewel that makes this place stand out, however, is the unbelievable attentiveness by the owners, Linda and Jorge. We walked in to a fresh flower arrangement, arranged by the skilled Jorge. Each bathroom has a mini wall vase , each with it’s own arrangement. The kitchen is stocked with tea bags (both caffeinated and herbal), spices, flour, birthday candles, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, coffee, a bowl of fresh fruit and indulgent cookies. Has your jaw dropped, yet?? OURS did! There was a first aid kit, bug spray, scissors, tape, note pads, stain remover, etc…and a promise to try to provide anything that we needed that wasn’t there. We were just excited to have a large pantry space; we were stunned at all of the additional surprises. The best of the surprises, if you ask my 8 yr old, is the perfect yard for fairy searching…there is a stump with a “door” in the base and a perfect seat in the side for sitting and watching for incoming fairies. I think she enjoyed that as much as the “treehouse/playhouse” with the loft area and the best view on the lot from the playhouse porch. The ladder to the playhouse has been modified and converted to steps; with handrails on each side, even my 74 yo mom was able to ascend the ladder to the playhouse. For me, the best treat was having a daytime fire in the firepit to thaw my toes out after wading in the creek. As my daughter said, “Don’t tell everybody about it; it’ll be too busy for us to get to come back!”

Wonderful Attention To Detail And Super Clean!

Our stay was way too short (long weekend) to really enjoy this awesome location! Linda is the only cabin owner we have ever rented from who met us upon arrival.even though it was close to 8pm, just to walk us through and show us where to find towels, light switches, etc. the cabin was immaculate and I was so thankful we were able to bring our dogs. Towels to wipe paws and food bowls were even provided and baby gates to keep them where we wanted. The river was too low to fish, but I imagine when it’s full that would be great right in the back yard. We watched a Netflix movie with our account and the Wi-Fi worked smoothly. There was a wedding at the airfield which meant we had live music on Saturday night from the deck which was nice by campfire. It was very private and nicely decorated. Great touches such as fresh fruit, local maps, and a welcome gift with cookies my husband immediately dove into after the long drive. Great spot with dogs and the enclosed deck was the perfect place to relax and enjoy morning coffee or an after-dinner drink. My small dog did manage to squeeze through the deck slats to chase a squirrel but if your dogs are bigger (or not inclined to chase a squirrel) there should be no problem with that. Thankfully I don’t think anyone spotted me chasing after him in my pjs! We don’t have kids, but the treehouse seemed too cute to not check out. I wish we had brought friends with kids because it was so amazingly done and very much a place any kid would want to hang out and play for hours with their friends! Overall, this was a 5 star stay, I would highly recommend it for couples, families with kids, people with well-behaved and clean dogs, there was way more room than we could use. The rates were extremely reasonable and we booked fairly last minute. Linda was extremely responsive. Great for cooking your own meals and close enough to town to venture out also. Would rent from Linda and Jorge again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

Peaceful Stay In The Mountains On A Beautiful Stream

Tusquittee Creek

My wife and I, son and granddaughter spent three lovely nights at the Blackwell Branch Cabin for Labor Day weekend 2016. We had a wonderful time in this quaint cabin located on a bold creek. While we didn’t catch any trout from the stream, my son caught nine nice bass from the pond on the property. We had a nice fish fry and took some home. Yum!  The cabin was very comfortable and clean and was enjoyed by all. The location was great as we toured some of the nearby attractions. The kitchen was well stocked with all our needs.  The owners, Linda and Jorge, were great host and were very helpful with all our questions.  We recommend this stay to future travels who are looking for a peaceful stay in the mountains on a beautiful stream. We look forward to a return visit some day

Great Cabin In A Fantastic Setting!

We stayed in the Blackwell Branch cabin for three nights after being forced to evacuate our home on the coast in SC. The setting next to the creek was perfect. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and very tastefully decorated, with every amenity you could want. The playhouse was so much fun for my 3 year old daughter and we loved going for morning and afternoon walks along the creek.  Linda and Jorge are awesome people who were so gracious and welcoming to my family during a stressful time. Cannot wait to stay there again.

A Beautiful Peaceful Spot Away From It All

creek rocks

A beautiful peaceful spot, away from it all, but convenient to necessities like grocery.  We had a great time relaxing at the Blackwell Branch cabin by the stream. It was exactly as advertised, plus some nice surprises like fruit, fresh flowers and cookies when we arrived! Linda took great care with all details, including providing info on local activities, a quick tour of the house upon arrival, prompt replies to any emailed or phoned questions, and stocking many unexpected supplies like paper towels and a sewing kit. The linens were a-plus, as were all kitchen accouterments. I really enjoyed the tasteful, low-key decor, comfortable couch and the wrap-around deck. The house was super-clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend renting this affordably-priced, beautiful cabin, which would be lovely in any season.

Loved Being Surrounded By All The Trees

Forest w-green trees

We were able to spend a month at Blackwell cabin. Loved being surrounded by all the trees with the rushing creek out back. Spent many hours on the wrap around porch from early morning til late in the evening. Fishing in the pond, playing in the creek. Watching the small planes take off and land close by. Very cool. Walking up to see the bull and the donkey and the sunset over the mountains nightly.  The house is very comfortable and spacious . Linda And Jorge are very friendly and helpful always answering any questions or just passing by and saying hello. Loved all the personal and special touches they’ve added to the house to make you feel welcome.  Can’t forget to add there is a huge firepit for cooking s’mores or hotdogs add in a little storytelling and for the youngsters or young at heart a two story tree house.
Loved walking over at the dam a short drive away. Checked out several waterfalls with High Shoals being our favorite hike.
Looking forward to our next trip back.

Wonderful Stay In The Forest!

Boogerman Trail

We had an absolutely wonderful stay in the forest! The kids had a great time splashing in the creek that runs behind the house and the older ones enjoyed canoeing and fishing in the nearby lake. Our little dog had fun swimming after the ducks in the pond ( of course she never did catch up to them). The house was very nice and neat with lots of open space, loved the wrap around porch where we had breakfast and coffee in the cool mornings. We had fun making smores in the outdoor fire pit. The little ones had a great time playing in the tree house. I can’t say enough about how helpful Linda and Jorge were. Linda provided bedding and a kennel for our little dog, so even she got the special treatment. I highly recommend a stay here and hope our family can make it back next year.

Nestled On a Wooded Lot With A Lovely Creek

Forest w-green trees

I would highly recommend this property to any prospective rentals. The house is lovely and beautifully decorated. We were there with 8 and had plenty of room. It was incredibly neat and clean! It is nestled on a wooded lot with a lovely creek running at the back of the property. You could stay here and not see another person for your entire stay. It was incredible for my two 3 year old grandsons as there is a two-story playhouse and they just loved playing in it. We spent two early evenings just throwing rocks in the creek and the boys just loved it. There is an amazing deck/porch on 3 sides of the house that was perfect for that morning cup of coffee or a place to unwind at the end of the day. We chose to see a lot of the area and loved everything we saw/did. The pictures posted on this site are very accurate and the owners were wonderful to work with. Linda was amazing before, during and after our stay. We chose to do horseback riding at Chunky Gal stables and it was the highlight of our trip. We loved the BBQ restaurants and the new, large grocery store in town. We enjoyed our trip over to the John C. Campbell Folk School and found the gift store to be amazing. There are some great little shops along the way and a place to buy grass fed beef for cooking on the grill. We also loved hiking the JackRabbit trails… all levels and distances. In summary, we loved this place and our only regret is that we hadn’t made plans to stay longer. Thank you for sharing this special corner of the world with us.

Lovely Cabin By The Creek

Tusquittee Creek

Lovely cabin by the creek – furnished with everything you’d need – a delightful place!  Linda provided a beautiful cabin, fully furnished with plates, cups, towels, sheets, and everything else you could want in a home. Open the doors and hear the delightful sound of the creek flood into the house – the screen doors keep out any bugs but let in the beautiful sound.  Very near the beautiful towns of Murphy and Hayesville, but the house provides spectacular mountain vistas all on its own. You get woods (surrounding the house), water (the creek and the pond just outside) and mountains (visible and definitely can drive to) all in one!

My family definitely wants to come back here soon!

It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This!

Sheltie dog

We have been VRBO renters for many years now and have stayed at many places in the NC, N. GA area. There were not enough stars in the review rating to rate Blackwell Branch Cabin. As much as I would like to keep this place to ourselves, it wouldn’t be fair. After staying for 5 weeks at the sister cabin, “Gili’s Cove Cottage” we were pleased to be the very first to stay at BBC. What an amazing place to stay. There just aren’t enough adjectives to describe the beauty of the Tusquittee Valley or the VRBO opportunities on Serenity Lane. The moment you cross over that sweet bridge which spans the Tusquittee River, you enter heaven on earth. Serene, forested, cool, calm…and on and on. BBC was every bit as spotless as their other property, Gili’s Cove Cottage, and offered a more “cabin-y” feel to it. A huge porch wraps around 3 sides of the home. With 3 bedrooms available, we invited two couples to come stay for a few days and enjoy it with us. Jorge and Linda couldn’t be more welcoming or hospitable! We count them as family now! And they loved our dog Abby and made her feel at home with sweet doggie bowls and feeding area close to the kitchen. And we knew if we were going to be gone for the day, Linda would take Abby for a walk for a very reasonable fee. Where can you get that when you travel with a pet? And that creek!! You will never want to go inside. The sound is SO soothing. You honestly forget all your troubles back home when you cross over that bridge. There are so many things to enjoy in the areas of Hayesville, Brasstown, Hiawassee and Murphy. All are within easy driving distance and offer a variety of adventures for all. We’ll be back in the Fall and chose Serenity Lane to be our VRBO of choice! I know you will, too, dang it!
