Tusquittee Creek

Treat yourself to the Perfect Retreat

Treat yourself to the perfect retreat! This cabin was so perfect to rid us of the cabin fever at home in Florida!! Our reservation was made in January and the NC lock down was lifted on May 8th so we were able to come up and are so happy we did! Linda and Jorge are gracious hosts and they always go the extra mile to make our stay wonderful. We have vacationed in homes all over GA, NC and TN and we have now stayed in both Gili’s Cove Cottage and Blackwell Branch Cabin (both owned by Linda and Jorge). These cabins are both the cleanest places we have ever seen! They have an attention to detail in their cleaning as well as the nice touches of flowers in unexpected places. They are very accommodating with pets and will even provide dog bowls and towels if you forget yours at home. If you need a break from every day life, Hayesville is just the place to relax and recharge, like a real retreat. The stunning beauty of the area and the friendly people will make you want to stay forever!
We visited several places during this trip since the wilderness is never closed! The State park bathroom facilities were closed due to COVID-19, so keep that in mind and bring supplies if you venture outdoors and watch out for poison ivy!! We made the most of it and fished for trout at Fires Creek Picnic area and Hiawassee River off of Tusquittee Creek Rd with great success. They have nice big trout in the streams around Clay County. We spent some time at Wayah Bald (amazing place), ate a picnic lunch at Wilson Lick Ranger Station and walked about a mile on the trail of Rufus Morgan Trail & Falls. We went mountain biking at the Jack Rabbit Trailhead which was both exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. We drove out toward Highlands, NC and stopped at Bust Your Butt Falls and walked right under Dry Falls! Dry Falls will blow your mind if you have never seen it! The parking area there is small, but well worth the effort or any wait time! None of the restaurants were open inside, but we picked up an amazing dinner at the Motor Company Grill in Franklin, NC and ate at Wesley’s Park next to the Little TN River. The food there is amazing and worth every extra penny! We also took a drive to Helton Creek Falls, GA and enjoyed the scenery along the way as well as the falls. My son and his friend even jumped in and swam to the base of the upper fall. The water was freezing , but boys will be boys even when they are young adults!
Overall we had an amazing time in NC this year and we will continue to go back to stay in any cabin that Linda & Jorge have available! They are both a treasure to our family and we look forward to our next visit!!
